Saturday, May 25, 2019, marks the one-year anniversary of the GDPR, and, if you have not already, you will probably receive many newsletters and articles about the first year of living with the GDPR. Many of these writings will describe the top ten things you should keep in mind regarding the GDPR and specific areas to focus on. There are several good reasons for all these recommendations.

During the last year, over

  • 144,000 complaints were filed with the data-protection authorities,
  • 89,000 data-breach notifications were logged with the authorities, and
  • the authorities issued 56 million euros in fines, with Google getting the largest one.

Authorities around Europe have used the last year to ramp up on staff, resources, and tools, so we have only seen the tip of the iceberg of GDPR enforcement.

So, happy one year anniversary to the GDPR – and to us at Legalmonster!
